There have been some major developments in the last six weeks in the construction of our new office space, and the Pompei A.D. staff is preparing to move from 459 Broadway to 116 Avenue of the Americas, at the end of August. Here are some of the details of the progress: - After removing the existing dropped ceiling, we discovered that the anchors had left significant holes in the concrete vaults about every four feet. The extensive restoration process included patching up the holes with concrete and painted them to look as they originally did. (Photo’s of this can be seen in the July 12th post "Photos: The Construction Process of our New Office Space")

- We tore down the existing HVAC – heating, ventilation and cooling system – which was designed for the previous ceiling height.

- Underneath the existing carpet we discovered a layer of vinyl composition tiles that contained asbestos in it. The concrete slab underneath the carpet has been cleaned to remove the asbestos, and to prep for painting.

- A plaster base coat was applied to the perimeter brick walls and then painted.

- The interior face of the windows has been clad with wood and painted

- The sliding doors and walls on the conference room, the small conference room, Ron’s office, the accounting office, and the front closet have been framed, sheathed and covered with Plyboo.

- The two sets of 8 foot double glass doors from our current office are being taken apart and transferred to the new space. One set of doors will be split and used for the entrance to Ron’s office and the accounting office. The other set of doors will be installed in the formal entrance lobby.

- All of the fixturing for the new space is under fabrication, and new appliances have been ordered for the kitchen.

There is a buzz of anticipation at 459 Broadway as we prepare for the big move. The transition is beginning to happen all around us. This week the library was packed up and the shelves were dismantled, curtains are coming down, and pictures taken off the walls. An echo is resonating in our work space – the moving date is fast approaching!
