As the first "continental" European store and the 100th Urban Outfitters store to open, Urban Outfitters Copenhagen gave us two good reasons to party.
On opening day, there was a reception complete with a DJ and vodka bar at the cash wrap. Later that night, and well into the early hours of the next day, the local youngsters continued the party in a club downtown.
We strove to incorporate the local spirit into the design, without loosing the inherent character of Urban Outfitters. This delicate balance was achieved by removing existing layers to reveal the history of the building, while simultaneously adding contrasting new layers.
The use of cool new materials - copper, terra cotta, cast concrete, white stained wood planks, glazed green and blue tiles, laser cut patterned plywood - evoke the industrial character of the city harbor, and contrasted with the exposed original timber and brick walls, enhance the overall raw, authentic and warm atmosphere.
Skylights highlight the main staircase and the brick skeleton of what was once an inner courtyard.
