Art Show: Karin Sander
At first, this show of all-white paintings with scuff marks and plastic bands seems like an annoying riff on Robert Ryman—and then you realize that all of these paintings were mailed to the gallery, and the marks created by the USPS. You’re seeing the wear and tear of time on objects that aren’t afforded special “art” status, and yet you also get a sense of government as somehow artistic. These could be an interesting footnote to the monochrome tradition by way of Situationism. — Jerry Saltz
