The Armory Show
“Recession be damned! The Armory Show takes over the city this weekend with the world’s most prominent art dealers hawking works at whimper-inducing prices. Now in its tenth year, the show has established itself as one of the world’s leading contemporary art fairs, and early reports confirm that business is on as usual: A Lichtenstein painting has already sold for close to $1 million. Accordingly, smaller fairs like Pulse Contemporary Art Fair and Scope New York take advantage of the feeding frenzy, featuring less mainstream dealers and niche art pieces, but the Armory Show, which commissioned works from John Waters this year, remains the big boy on the block. — Michael Alan Connelly”
