What inspires us: Art
The ideas that have grabbed our attention today

ITP Winter Show 2011

if you’re around this weekend, check out the show from NYU’s Interactive Telecommunications Program (ITP). Lots of bleeding edge ideas about, well…interactive technology.

Extra bonus: you can see Danny Rosen’s “Wooden Mirror” in the upstairs lobby, one of the coolest high/low tech interactive sculptures I’ve ever seen:

Also, if you want to see some cool ideas about tech (and you should), check out the student projects pages: http://itp.nyu.edu/itp/gallery/

Made by Hand

Made by Hand / No 2 The Knife Maker from Made by Hand on Vimeo.

This website tells inspiring stories about interesting people pursuing atypical interests and hand-crafting beautiful products.   Love it!

Rick Owens on Rick Owens

Fashion designer and king of the international avant-garde offers a narrative into his process from early beginning to cult following.

He has an almost religious absence of a palette enhanced by sublime drapery and elongated silhouettes.

His empire is now complimented by his recent venture into furniture (think ton-and-a-half alabaster bed).

This anthology written by Owens himself includes contributions by such key players as Olivier Zahm co-founded Purple magazine, as well as others.

Journey

Can’t wait for Journey to be released for PS3. I love experimental video games, and this one’s gorgeous to boot.

Gowanus Open Studios

This year is the 15th anniversary of the A.G.A.S.T. Open Studio tour, and I’ve had the pleasure of helping to organize it and keep it going. I will be opening up my doors and showing some new work on Saturday and Sunday, October 15th and 16th from 12-6pm both days. My studio is located at 94 9th Street in Brooklyn, between 2nd avenue and Smith Street, 4th floor, #22.

There’s 131 other artists in the neighborhood participating as well, and you can preview most of the artists and get all the information here. You can check my work out here.

Vasco Mourão

Vasco Mourão is the artist currently sating my appetite for intricately detailed line drawings.

Oscar Diaz’s Ink Calendar

Each month, a bottle of coloured ink spreads across a sheet of paper embossed with numbers, colouring them in as it goes.

Daphne Guinness

The Daphne Guinness collection now on display at The Museum at FIT. An Awe inspiring  glimpse into the wardrobe of what some consider clothes horse, others a première fashion icon.
