MRketplace interviews Ron Pompei about C3 philosophy

MRketplace, a menswear industry publication, has just posted an interview with Ron Pompei about our work on The Art of Shaving and My.Suit:

Pompei started his career as an artist, creating light installations and sculpture; he then moved on to commercial design for stores and restaurants. Current menswear clients include The Art of Shaving and My.Suit, where he’s managed to create unique environments in which men are comfortable enough to hang out but inspired enough to spend money.

The Art of Shaving in the LA Times

The Pompei A.D.-designed Art of Shaving Men’s Spa in Beverly Hills has been getting some great reactions:

When we ducked in to check out the new digs, brand representatives told us that moving forward, stores (the number of which is growing rapidly, and is expected to hit 63 by the end of 2011) would resemble the look and feel of the Beverly Hills space. That’s a good thing because the décor — which includes walls covered with vintage-looking razor ads, shaving-related cartoons and, flanking the front entryway, a wall-hanging comprised of hundreds of razor blades — manages to toe the exceedingly fine line between manly and trying-too-hard-masculinity.

Drapers, the UK’s leading fashion industry publication, has shortlisted the Pompei A.D.-designed Monsoon Oxford Street store for their Best New Store or Department of the Year award.

Lōcale in the Montréal Gazette

The Montréal Gazette has a great interview with Douglas Bensadoun, the creative director of Aldo, with whom we worked to develop the Lōcale brand.

There was no market research as to whether consumers actually will buy in this environment. “We speak to people we trust and feel have their finger on the cultural consciousness,’’ he said, mentioning Pompei A.D., the New York-based firm that developed the Lōcale design.

Monsoon redesign in Drapers’

British fashion industry authority Drapers’ has published a review lauding our redesign of Monsoon’s Oxford Street store:

Would I buy? Yes. It’s that simple really. This is a store interior that chimes perfectly with its target market and where the ranges seem to meld with the environment that has been created. […]

Verdict: The refurbishment of this Monsoon store on Oxford street has to be deemed a major success for the retailer.

Disney Store featured on the cover of DDI

The Pompei A.D. designed Disney Store has just been featured on the cover of DDI magazine.

Disney Store ultimately selected New York-based design firm Pompei A.D. to work with its in-house design team to create a fresh look and feel. Paul Gainer, vice president of Disney Store, North America, says the ultimate goal for the redesigned store was to make it “the best 30 minutes of a child’s day.” “Pompei really grasped [our] vision statement from the beginning,” he says. “They created a design aesthetic and experience that went with the vision statement and used it as a filter from the beginning of the process.”
